Chinese video-sharing company, TikTok has invited African entrepreneurs to join the first-ever elevator pitch in the sky event.
Launched in partnership with The Gritti Fund “Pitch Up In The Sky” as dubbed will see the selected finalists pitch while skydiving in Dubai for a chance to win US$10,000 investment and one-year mentorship from The Gritti Fund, the world’s first purpose-driven and happiness-focused investment fund.
Pitch Up In The Sky aims to be the ultimate elevator pitch for daring entrepreneurs who can overcome their fears and stay cool under pressure.
Aiming to be the most live-streamed start-up pitch event in history, it will enable millions of TikTok viewers around the world to discover who has what it takes to reach the top.
Boniswa Sidwaba, content operations manager at TikTok Africa Team, said in a statement that “Through this event, we aim to support our local community of budding entrepreneurs by providing them with the opportunity to creatively express their ideas with the possibility that those ideas may materialize,”
The pitch event is open to founders of early-stage startups in Africa and the Middle East that with a working product and have raised less than US$500,000 in funding. The areas of focus include healthcare, education, artificial intelligence, media & entertainment, and transportation.
Interested founders should create an account on TikTok and upload a 1-minute startup pitch video to TikTok tagged with #PitchUpInTheSky, #OvercomeYourFear and #BeConvincing. The video MUST contain a text-box with the name of the startup; thereafter fill an online application form.
World-famous entrepreneurs and venture capitalists including Marcel Muenster, Founder of The Gritti Fund, Bill Tai, Zoom’s first investor and Roberto Croci, Regional Managing Director at Microsoft for Startups Middle East & Africa among others will judge the entries and give exclusive personal interviews throughout the event about the challenges they’ve faced on the road to success.
The final event is scheduled for October 17 where the finalists will then give the startup pitch of a lifetime during their rapid ascent in an aircraft to a breathtaking skydive.
