Bluewave Insurance Agency Limited an insurance startup that creates an innovative mass market, microinsurance products accessible via mobile devices won the Seedstars Nairobi edition and compete at next year’s Seedstars Summit in Switzerland for a chance to secure up to US$1 million in equity investment.
The event which took place at Nailab has eight startups competing in front of a jury consisting of Samuel Gikandi, CEO, Africa’s Talking Ltd Teresa Mbagaya, Investment Principal, Omidyar Network and Maryam Mgonja, East Africa Associate, Seedstars.
Bluewave Insurance Agency will also represent Kenya at the Seedstars regional summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and join 19 other startups where they will be joined by the best people from the corporate, government, startup and the investment world to share knowledge, connect regional/global stakeholders and to inspire attendees to believe in the potential of innovation on the African continent.
Optimetriks an agile Sales Force Automation platform that helps Africa’s FMCG companies to better manage their distribution in the traditional trade took the 1sr runners-up position while Angaza Elimu, an Edtech solution that reduces content delivery inefficiencies that learners and teachers face in and outside of the classroom secured the 2nd runners-up.
In 2017, M-Shule, an Edtech platform that improves learning for primary school student in Africa using artificial intelligence and SMS to deliver personalized, accessible education, was selected the best startup in Kenya and represented Kenya at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland.
